Danny Boyle’s exit from the next James Bond film jeopardises millions of pounds in sponsorship deals

DANNY Boyle’s exit from the next James Bond film could cost MGM studios millions in endorsement deals if they are forced to delay its release.

Furious film bosses have spent two years securing sponsorship arrangements which they are in danger of losing if makers Eon Productions are unable to get the project back on track.

The movie, which is Daniel Craig’s last as 007, was due to begin shooting in four months time ahead of the December 2019 release date but both MGM and Eon are now rushing to secure a new director and script in time.

A Bond insider told The Sun: “The idea of delaying the film is a disaster and could cause huge fall outs with sponsors and endorsement clients.

“Producers have actively been locking in deals for cars, clothing, beverages, phone and watches since the announcement of Daniel’s return.

“These deals are worth millions with major brands who are building campaigns around the 2019 release.

“In the marketing world, those plans are already being reviewed and prepped at the cost of even more millions.

“If the film gets delayed, there could be the nightmare scenario of these brands taking legal action.

"It is potentially a huge embarrassment and stress levels are high.

“The top tier executives are now having to reassure them that everything is on track.”

More than 17 brands including Heineken, Sony, Bollinger and Omega had deals in place for 2015’s Spectre.

Danny, 61, quit the film nicknamed Bond 24 on Tuesday over creative differences with Daniel, 50.

On Thursday it emerged Daniel, who has starred in four Bond films, clashed with the Trainspotting director over whether Polish actor Tomasz Kot, 41, should play the baddie.

Sam Mendes, 53, directed the franchise’s latest films Skyfall and Spectre and is now being mooted to return.

The insider added: “Daniel and Sam Mendes butted heads on the last two films, but the results were astonishing.

“If they can get Mendes back then that would soothe a lot of fears — but it is a huge if. Everyone has been told the December start date is still happening.”
