James Corden says Jamie Redknapp broke his wrist when defending his ‘moneymaking’ looks during a stunt gone wrong
HIS time on the football pitch was marred by injuries – but the TV studio is not proving much safer for Jamie Redknapp.
The ex-Liverpool midfielder was left with a fractured wrist after A League Of Their Own co-panellist Romesh Ranganathan dropped a football on him from 120ft as he tried to break a keepie-uppie record.
Realising it was about to hit him in the face, Jamie put his hand up to stop it, as I revealed in July.
Ahead of the show’s return to Sky One on Thursday at 9pm, host James Corden said: “Jamie couldn’t damage his face — that’s the moneymaker, let’s be honest.” The show is famed for its crazy stunts and the gang, including Freddie Flintoff, were impressed Jamie just carried on.
James said: “What’s amazing is that he thinks he’s just sprained it and he carries on, breaks the record, goes to hospital, gets a scan, gets a cast, comes back and does the show.
“It goes against everything you have ever heard about Jamie Redknapp.
“Some of his Liverpool teammates must be going, ‘Where was that spirit before?’.” Trouper Jamie said:
“It’s that weird thing, Fred’s got it too, when you start something, like trying to break a record, you’re not going to let anything beat you.”
Meanwhile, James, who has become a huge success Stateside as host of The Late Late Show, puts his presenting skills down to A League Of Their Own.
He said: “This show taught me how to host things.
“I’d never really done it before.
“I remember when we did the pilot and I’d never sat at a desk and read an autocue before — and now that’s a huge part of my day every day.”
It’s good to remember where you came from James.

It's the Si and lows for Louis
LOUIS Tomlinson found an unlikely shoulder to cry on after his mum Johannah died.
The former One Direction singer sought solace in his old mentor and now fellow X Factor judge Simon Cowell.
Johannah died aged 43 in 2016 after battling leukaemia.
Louis said: “He’s one of the people I take advice from and speak to in those moments. I’m really lucky I’ve got such a good relationship with Simon.” But they have not always been close. Speaking ahead of The X Factor’s launch on ITV at 8pm this Saturday, Louis added: “I don’t like to stick to the rules and neither does Simon, so for the first 18 months after meeting I must have been a pain in the a***.”
While filming, Louis enjoyed poking fun at Simon with judges Robbie Williams and his wife Ayda Field. He said: “I am testing how much I can get away with. It’s pretty funny winding him up.”
I doubt Simon agrees.

The new crown
GAME Of Thrones actor Tobias Menzies has a tough act to follow in the next series of The Crown.
He plays the Duke of Edinburgh, above, in the third series, taking over the role from Matt Smith, who did a brilliant job in the first two.
Tobias, Edmure Tully in Thrones, will star alongside Olivia Coleman as Queen Elizabeth II, and Helena Bonham Carter as Princess Margaret, inset bottom.
Let’s hope Tobias ends up with as many medals for his efforts as his character has.
