Bodyguard’s Keeley Hawes has a steamy lesbian romp in 2002 drama Tipping The Velvet
VIEWERS have been captivated by Keeley Hawes in Bodyguard, which has been called the BBC's "best drama in 20 years".
But fans saw the actress, 42, in a very different light back in 2002, when she stripped off for a lesbian romp in Tipping The Velvet.
The mini-series followed co-star Rachael Stirling as Nan Astley, an 18-year-old who becomes enamoured with male impersonator Kitty Butler, played by Keeley.
Forming a sisterly friendship, the pair move to London together to perform, where their relationship soon turns into romance.
They vow to keep their feelings a secret, but the pair still get hot and heavy away from prying eyes.
Stripping completely naked, Keeley passionately kisses her co-star in one steamy scene, as they have sex on the floor of their dingy apartment.
The character is worlds away from Keeley's role of Home Secretary and Conservative MP Julia Montague, in Bodyguard.
The most recent episode of the BBC thriller saw the politician survive a horrifying assassination attempt, leaving her cowering in a car covered in blood.
She later thanked her married protection officer David Budd, played by Richard Madden, for saving her life and they ended up having sex.
Fans haven't been able to get enough of the nail-biting drama, branding it "the best programme in a long time" on Twitter.
The BBC one drama launched with 6.9million viewers last Sunday — and creator Jed Mercurio is already planning a second series.
The writer shared the news on Twitter as he offered a cameo to former Home Secretary Amber Rudd, who penned an article about the drama in The Sunday Times.
Praising the politician for the piece, he wrote to fans: “Maybe she’ll honour us with a cameo appearance if we get a second series!”
