THE 2018 series of The Great British Bake Off is here!
This week was Bread Week and the bakers rose to the challenges and produced some masterpieces. So whose creations didn't quite have the snap required and who claimed the coveted Star Baker title?
What happened during Bread Week?
Ten bakers took o the task of making bread for the judges.
But who impressed Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith?
Here were the winners and losers of each challenge:
- Signature Bake - The first challenge was Chelsea Buns. The lurid colours of macaron and candied icing give way this week to the beiges and golds of bread. Bring on the pain. Or pain, as they say in France. Kim-Joy has another unique method for producing her offering. And she likes to surprise her boyfriend at his comic shop. Manon’s buns are heart-shaped and fruity. She claims it’s really hard to find nice bread in London. Jon’s are too hard but delicious. Rahul’s already apologising for his fruit before they’ve even sunk their teeth in.Karen’s are insanely bright and she is not sorry about that. Ruby forgot to put sugar in her dough.
- Technical Challenge -a batch of garlic naans. It was a grill challenge instead of the oven, so a whole different skill. Paul said such a wet dough will be hard to keep uniform. As is usual with the Technical, some of the bakes were disasters and others demonstrated skill. In last place is K-J. The first prize goes to Terry who retained his composure. Briony was just happy to have done eight in the time and Ruby was glad not to be the worst Indian to make naans.
- The Showstopper challenge was to create a TIERED KOROVAI. It’s an eastern european party treat. The judges were very impressed by Ruby’s almond flavour and Dan’s teeny tiny flowers - but did they do enough to save themselves?
Who left the tent in episode three of GBBO 2018?
After much tasting and deliberating Prue and Paul decided that Antony's time in the competition was over.
Before going into the tent, Antony described himself as a "Bollywood baker" after growing up in India, where he learned to bake with his father.
He said: "I went in for my dad who taught me how to make a Victoria sponge as a little boy. And my partner who signed me up for this.
Who was the third Star Baker?
Rahul's attention to detail impressed the judges and she claimed the coveted title.
Rahul said joining the show was his colleague's idea and that he didn't know much about the programme.
He confessed: "Even five years ago I really had no idea about The Great British Bake Off.
"One of my colleagues kind of pushed me to apply for Bake Off. He kept sending me the application link, until I said to him that I have started applying."
