FERN Britton has hit back at Phillip Schofield on Twitter after he claimed that she WAS invited to This Morning's Bafta tribute party earlier this week.

The star has insisted that she did not get an invitation after she called the presenter out on the apparent snub during her appearance on the programme this morning.

After the awkward live TV interview, Phillip took to his Twitter page to set the record straight.

Replying to a fan, the host said: "Odd really, because she was invited and declined #MemoryLoss."

He continued: "We'd have loved her to be there, a vital and much loved part of the show."

But Fern isn't having any of it.

The TV star instead retweeted a reply to Phil's message, which read: "No animosity between @Schofe and @Fern_Britton, of course!

"Even if she had been invited, surely Phillip would have assumed there had been some kind of miscommunication - rather than making a jibe about '#memoryloss'.."

Fern responded: "No. I had no invitation to decline."

This Morning viewers were left cringing when Fern addressed the snub during a live appearance on the show today.

Fern appeared via video link and was visibly disgruntled that she didn't get an invite to the glitzy bash earlier this week.

Phil and his co-host Holly Willoughby started the interview asking the former This Morning presenter for some of her favourite moments from the programme's history.

However, Fern soon changed the subject - bringing up Monday night's Bafta event, which saw the show receive an award for its contribution to British TV in honour of its 30th birthday.

Fern said: "Congratulations on Bafta.

"That was absolutely wonderful and brilliant, and I would have loved to have been there, but I didn’t get an invitation..."

Phil quickly cut her off, asking about the theatre production of Calendar Girls - which Fern is currently starring in.

He interrupted: "You are on stage, so how's it going? Standing ovations every night..."

But Fern hit back with a smirk, quipping: "Well, I wasn't on Monday night."

The tense exchange did not go unnoticed by viewers at home, who took to Twitter to express their discomfort.

One wrote: "Was it me or was it awkward as f*** with Holly, Phil and Fern then?"

Another added: "Ooh, Fern Britton being catty about the lack of invite to #ThisMorning BAFTA award ceremony on Monday night. Meow."

Fern hosted the ITV daytime show from 1999 until 2009, with Phil her co-host from 2002 onwards.

It was previously reported that the once-close pair fell out over a row about pay - which is allegedly why Fern decided to quit in 2009.

However, earlier this year Fern denied that this was the case.
