Fiona Elizabeth Bruce was born in Singapore on 25 April 1964, which makes her 54 years old.
She went to school in both the UK and in Italy before studying French and Italian at Oxford, where she briefly became a punk.
The television journalist and newsreader joined a management consulting firm for a year which made her miserable.
She then went on to work as a researcher for BBC's Panorama after pestering the programme's then Editor Tim Gardam at a wedding.
The 54-year-old later worked as a producer and reporter on both BBC Breakfast and Newsnight and in 1999 she became the secondary presenter of the BBC Six O'Clock News.
She has gone on to become the first female newsreader on the BBC News at Ten as well as presenting many flagship programmes such as Crimewatch, Real Story, Road Show and Fame or Fortune?
In 2010 she received an award as the female Rear of The Year and later said that her acceptance was "hypocritical" and "demeaning".
She met husband Nigel Sharrocks when he was director of one of the advertising agencies where she worked.
They married in 1994 in Islington and they now live in Belsize Park and Oxfordshire with their two children.

How long has The One Show been running?
The magazine-style show has been running for over a decade. The first episode was aired on August 14, 2006.
From 2007 to 2010 it was hosted by Adrian Chiles and Christine Bleakley, before Alex Jones and Jason Manford took the helm, later being replaced by Matt Baker.
Chris Evans oversaw the Friday night hour-long episodes from 2010 to 2015.
The likes of Dermot O’Leary, Phil Tufnell, Zoe Ball and Fearne Cotton are among the guest presenters who have stood in for the regular duos.
