What have Keira Knightley and Kristen Bell said about Disney movies and why did the actresses criticise them?
These mums believe that some Disney movies send the wrong messages to their kids
KEIRA Knightley and Kristen Bell are both famous mums that have openly criticised certain Disney movies.
Here’s what the talented actresses have said about why they won’t let their kids watch some animated princess films.
What have Keira Knightley and Kristen Bell said about Disney movies?
The actress is promoting a Disney movie of her own entitled The Nutcracker and the Four Realms at the moment.
She explained that these movies are Cinderella and Little Mermaid.
This comes soon after Kristen Bell voiced her criticisms about the Disney universe.
The star, who portrayed Princess Anna in the box-office hit Frozen, was particularly critical of Snow White.
Why did the actresses criticise them?
Speaking to Ellen DeGeneres, Keira explained that she wasn’t keen on her daughter Edie watching the Cinderella from the 1950s.
She said that Cinderella “waits around for a rich guy to rescue her. Don’t! Rescue yourself. Obviously!”
As for The Little Mermaid, the beautiful blonde exclaimed: “I mean, the songs are great, but do not give your voice up for a man. Hello!?”
She added: “And, this is the one that I’m quite annoyed about because I really like the film. I love The Little Mermaid! That one’s a little tricky – but I’m keeping to it.”
However, Kiera explained that not all Disney movies are banned, Dory being a “big favourite”, and Frozen and Moana.
As for Kristen, the actress discussed the topic during her interview with Parenting Magazine.
She said: “Every time we close Snow White, I look at my girls and ask ‘Don’t you think it’s weird that Snow White didn’t ask the old witch why she needed to eat the apple? Or where she got that apple?’
“‘Don’t you think that it’s weird that the prince kisses Snow White without her permission? Because you cannot kiss someone if they’re sleeping!'”
