She added: "I also think Aladdin is a little bit racist and has issues with cultural appropriation."

Author Scarlett - who's the daughter of filmmaker Richard Curtis - also said the films represent an "unrealistic expectation" of life where kids are told to find a "fairytale ending and find your Prince Charming."

She called Disney princesses "thin, subservient, white women who get whisked off their feet by white men".

Scarlett added: "The originals were actually very dark and had a lot of sad endings. And then we had some that had happy endings. And now we could have some that had feminist endings."

On Twitter one viewer fumed: "Now trying to ban classic Disney films cos they aren’t feminist. And that Aladdin is a racist film. What is actually happening to the world."

Another added: "Heard it all now on GMB Aladdin is racist, Disney is sexist and inappropriate, we need to remake the films."

Actresses Keira Knightley and Kristen Bell have also openly criticised certain Disney movies.

And Frozen star Kristen Bell said Disney classic Snow White sends the wrong message about consent to children.

The actress, 38, said the story taught boys to kiss without permission as Snow White is asleep when the prince touches her.

Discussing Keira's ban on Good Morning Britain , Piers Morgan dismissed it as a "load of flannel" - with a poll showing 92 per cent of viewers agreed with him.
