Who left the Great British Bake Off last night?

Sadly it was Briony Williams who was forced to say farewell to her fellow bakers last night after failing to convince the judges she deserved a spot in next week's final.

Speaking after she said it was sad not to have made the final but was proud of how far she had gone in the competition.

Here's how each of the challenges unfolded on the night:

  • Signature Bake - This task saw the contestants challenged to create madeleines. While Rahul excelled, Ruby got into difficulty with hers failing to have a hump as required by the judges. But Rahul seemed mystified why people were giggling at the word "hump".
  • Technical Challenge - A spectacularly difficult technical challenge saw the bakers asked to create a torta setteveli - a seven-layered cake constructed over three-and-a-half hours. Ruby recovered well to win this task, with Kim-Joy second after nearly giving up over her failed mousse. Briony was third, Rahul last.
  • Showstopper Challenge - The contestants' final chance to impress saw them create a Parisian patisserie window filled with at least 36 pastries. Ruby emerged as Star Baker after wowing the judges with her showstopper, while Briony, who appeared to mix up salt with sugar, was given the boot.

When is the Bake Off 2018 final and who is in it?

The Great British Bake Off 2018 started on Tuesday, August 28, at 8pm on Channel 4, and it's shown in the same time slot each Tuesday.

The grand final will take place on Tuesday, October 30 - with Kim-Joy, Rahul and Ruby going for glory.

If you miss an episode you can catch it on All 4 and Jo Brand is back with An Extra Slice on Friday at 8pm, also on C4.

The judges and presenters are unchanged from last year - Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood judge, while Noel Fielding and Sandi Toksvig as hosts.
