STRICTLY Come Dancing's Dr Ranj Singh and Janette Manrara melted viewers' hearts tonight with a surprise gesture as they were introduced.

The couple - who were dancing a Jive to Monster Mash during the Halloween Special - used sign language to wish deaf viewers a happy Halloween.

As the announcer said their name, Dr Ranj and Janette did two movements near their eyes to spell out the word, and it didn't go unnoticed by some viewers watching at home.

One, called Sign in School, wrote on Twitter: "Thank you @DrRanj and @JManrara for #spookysigning Halloween on the @bbcstrictly steps! Well done @ITMatters_CIC @MakatonCharity #sse #bsl."

Another tweeted a picture of her daughter signing thank you back to the couple writing: "#amazing! Alice says thank you! @MakatonYou @MakatonCharity."

The kind words will hopefully cheer the 39-year-old up after he found himself at the bottom of the leaderboard alongside Seann Walsh and Kate Silverton following his Jive.

The couple only scored 20 points after Dr Ranj - dressed as a monster - made a number of mistakes during their routine.

Craig Revel Horwood said: "I think the kids at home would love that number, I didn't however.

"I think the costume was covering a multitude of sins. I thought it was very heavy and very stompy. "There was some timing issues and you lost it on the drunken sailors and tried to pick it up again. Not your best."

Darcey Bussell also picked up on the number of errors, saying: "I know you made lots of mistakes, they were just so clear, sadly there was just too many mistakes.

"I think you got carried away with the character it was so strong."

Shirley Ballas added: "I loved the concept, you started off really well but you just got little misstep here and there, the little bit of Jive you did do was nice but just too many mistakes."

Bruno Tonioli offered some words of encouragement, telling him: "It happens to everyone, we all have a night off, don't get all crazy about it.

"If you stay in next week don't make any mistakes my darling because you're charming."
