Coronation Street legend Angela Griffin wants to reprise role as Fiona Middleton and reveals ‘perfect storyline’
The actress teased that she could be ready to return to the Cobbles if there was a 'big storyline.'
ANGELA Griffin wants to return to the cobbles as Fiona Middleton on Coronation Street and has revealed her 'perfect storyline.'
The actress teased that she could be ready to return to the cobbles despite having moved across the pond to film Canadian drama, The Detail.
Speaking to , Angela, 42, said she could be tempted back if there was a good enough story for her much loved character - and it would have to involve Steve McDonald.
But she stressed: "I wouldn't go back and spend 30 years there because I like playing cops now."
The actress is currently playing a gun-toting police officer in the Canadian drama.
And, clearly inspired, she even suggested that "Fiona could go back with a gun and an American accent - that's a storyline."
Fiona is currently playing detective Stevie Hall in the crime drama, which is based on ITV's Scott and Bailey.
The hit UK show starred another ex-Corrie legend, Suranne Jones.
Despite moving across the pond, the former Corrie star admitted that she'll "occasionally dip in and out but I haven't watched it in a while".
And even though she's moved on to different projects she says fans still contact her about current plots on the hit show.
She revealed: "I get tweets from people because there's a character in it now who could potentially be the daughter of my character Fiona and her boyfriend Steve McDonald - she's the right age."
And it's not the first time the star has teased fans with a possible return.
Earlier this year Angela hinted she could be the next big name heading back to Coronation Street after Sean Wilson's return.
In January she suggested to Lorraine that Fiona might be the next character to make a shock return to the street.
She said: "If he's [Sean Wilson] going back you never know who else goes back...
"You never know. Never say never...
"It's got to be a cracking storyline and it's got to have Steve McDonald in it.
"Who knows if I will get in another black cab and come back."
The actress played Fiona Middleton in the soap for six years but hasn't been seen on the cobbles in two decades since quitting Weatherfield in 1998.
Fiona caused high drama by having an affair with Steve's dad Jim behind his back and their on/off relationship kept viewers captivated.
The sordid fling was revealed on her wedding day as the pregnant hairdresser walked down the aisle with new man Alan McKenna.
He left her at the alter after the news came out amid fears the baby wasn't his.
Fi later got back with Steve, who was going to help her raise the little boy, who she named Morgan, but he cheated on her with best friend Maxine [played by Tracey Shaw].
She threw Steve out and left Weatherfield with Morgan in 1998.
Angela's character was last seen leaving in a black cab with her son Morgan after her doomed romance with Steve McDonald finally broke down.
