The comedian let slip that the hit BBC show could be coming to a close.

He told the "We are booked to do Christmas specials for the BBC until 2020 but if they go, 'We are going to drop you as we don’t think it’s strong enough' then I’d kill Agnes off!

"Our final episode would be the funniest show I’ve ever written for the first 24 minutes. Then the last four minutes would break your f***king heart."

The show - which has been running since 2011 - has become a staple of the network and has since gone on to be adapted into the 2014 film as well as a stage show which even toured Australia.

The sitcom was developed from Brendan's works from the 90s and despite poor critical reviews has gone on to become an international success - being broadcast in the US, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, Australia and even Iceland.

Viewers are often left reeling by the slapstick humour and the celebrity guests that appear including James Blunt, Freddie Flintoff and Sting.

Fans were left in hysterics when EastEnders actor Danny Dyer walked into Mrs Brown's kitchen to find Agness begging him to take her while lying on the table legs akimbo.

But despite the laughts the cast landed themselves in some hot water last year when they were accused of putting more than £2million into an offshore tax-avoidance scheme.

Brendan's daughter Fiona Delany, her husband Martin and their Mrs Brown’s Boys co-star Paddy Houlihan were turned over by the BBC’s own investigations team, Panorama, for using a legal scheme to pay less tax on their earnings for the series.

In May Brendan said: “It was just three actors. They did nothing illegal. They did absolutely nothing illegal.

“Here’s the big thing: Close the f***ing loophole. It’s that simple. Close the f***ing loophole. It must be facilitating something.”

The revelations didn’t appear to faze Brendan, whose hit programme has spawned spin-offs which include a talk show and a movie.

He joked: “We went back out on stage a week after and the audience stood up and f***ing clapped, thinking we were out dodging tax! We hadn’t. We pay a f***ing fortune in tax.

“We live in America. So we pay tax in New Zealand, Australia, America, Canada, UK and Ireland. We pay a lot of tax. But we prefer to pay tax because we do use the roads, we do educate our kids in the schools. We don’t mind paying our way.”

The scheme was revealed as part of the so-called Paradise Papers, a series of millions of leaked documents detailing offshore investments.

The complicated process saw the trio using a web of companies to avoid paying tax on their earnings.

But BBC’s main concern with Brendan was not his finances but whether he could deliver another hit.

Brendan’s thoughts turned to the sitcom’s Christmas special, which he had yet to write back in May.

At the time he said: “The BBC will be ringing in about four weeks’ time. ‘How we doing? How we looking? We just want to know what design the Christmas tree is going to be, what extra stuff we’ll need’. I’ll go, ‘Yeah, well, I’m working on it’.”

Though loved by millions, the show — which first aired in 2011 — is often panned by critics. And even Brendan can’t believe how things have panned out.

He said: “I thought I’d be signing on again. I thought I’d be f***ing collecting my dole. I don’t realise the impact that this has had.”

And Brendan insists he isn’t worried about offending snowflakes by wearing a dress.

He joked: “Mrs Brown’s answer to that would be, ‘Well, I have always been well supported by the LGBT-LMNOP community’.”
