CHARLIE Lawson has hinted that Jim McDonald could be back "for good".
The Corrie actor let slip that the fan favourite could permanently return to the cobbles while speaking on Good Morning Britain.
Charlie, 59, told Piers Morgan, Susanna Reid and Charlotte Hawkins about the exciting prospect.
He said: "Yes I've been back doing a couple of months in Corrie. Some peopled loved it, some people..."
Before Piers interrupted: “Oh I loved it, I just think that Jim McDonald is one of the great characters of Corrie. He really is.”
Charlie continued: “He’s become a bit of a legend and I’m very proud of him. I created him with the writers – and what have you – and I've never had a dull moment so I'd love to go back.
"And for the first time in 40 years in the business Ian the producer – this has never happened to me – phoned me up and said: 'Charlie how do you feel about the future? What do you think about the character? And what do you think should happen?'"
Charlie jumped back in mock shock while the GMB hosts said "wow".
The actor continued: “I was very impressed with that so hopefully the answer to the question is he may return next year for a longer stint.”
Charlie first appeared in Coronation Street as Jim in 1989 with his wife Liz McDonald, and last turned up on the cobbles in 2014 before returning again in September.
From 2000-2007 Jim served a prison sentence for manslaughter after beating up Jez Quigley who later died.
This was revenge for Jez beating up Jim's son Steve who testified against the drug dealer for killing Tony Horrocks.
Jim went to prison again in 2011 after attempting to rob a building society and holding the customers hostage.
In 2014 he made an appearance as the prison "landlord" when Peter Barlow was wrongly sent down for the murder of Tina McIntyre.
He was due to be released in 2018 so his return was highly anticipated.
But he didn't come back alone - he brought Hannah who posed as Liz's dead daughter Katie as part of an elaborate scam.
And in an unexpected twist Jim and Katie, his fake dead daughter, were actually lovers.
Charlie's appearance on GMB comes just days after the actor broke down on BBC Breakfast when he opened up about the terrifying moment he was pulled off stage after suffering a mini-stroke.
Last month the 59-year-old fell ill on stage as he appeared to forget his lines.
He told BBC Breakfast hosts Louise Minchin and Steph McGovern that he went deaf and struggled with his vision before being hauled away by a co-star during the play Rebus: Long Shadows in Edinburgh.
At one point, Charlie raised his hand and said: "Sorry... I'm finding it..."
Louise then jumped in and asked if he'd like to take a moment.
