STRICTLY Come Dancing’s Ashley Roberts has defended herself after bursting into tears when she ended up in the bottom two on the show at the weekend.
The former Pussycat Dolls star, 37, was seen crying live on television as she was delivered the devastating news, having found herself near the top of the leader board in previous weeks.
But, during an appearance on spin-off show It Takes Two on Tuesday night, the singer spoke out about her feelings.
Explaining how she felt being in the dance off for the second time, Ashley told host Zoe Ball: "Everybody’s working so hard and we’ve gotten so far in this competition.
“We’ve put our guts, our sweat, our heart out on that dance floor every Saturday night and I think it just hits me because I don’t want to let [professional partner] Pash down.
“I also just want to go out there and do the best that I can.”
She added: “It is tough, you’re standing there not know what’s going to happen and when the light goes red you feel a bit deflated and then you look each other and you go, ‘Alright, we gotta do this.”
Her professional partner Pasha Kovalev told her: “You are doing the best that you can. I think that it's just because it's so personal.
“You really want to do well and you really want everyone to like and appreciate it, and enjoy it.”
Ashley has found herself in the bottom two with partner Pasha for the last two weeks and was unable to hide her emotion on Sunday night.
It clearly all became a bit too much for the star after she heard her name announced and the red light hit her, confirming she would be facing Charles Venn in the dance off.
As the judges gave her some advice on how she could improve ahead of her second performance, Ashley struggled to keep her tears inside, and they eventually started rolling down her cheeks.
As host Tess Daly consoled her, Ashley admitted: "I just care, we work hard and I really want to be here."
However viewers didn't have a lot of sympathy for the 37-year-old, who has been criticised by fans of the show for her past dance experience during the series.
One wrote on Twitter: "Why is Ashley crying???" while another added: "Ashley needs to stop crying all of the time. Things don't always go the way you want them to dear."
A third agreed, writing: "Ashley cryuing bc she's realised the public don't like her."
However some did sympathise, with one tweeting: "Poor Ashley. How awful to know that whatever she does the public simply don't like her enough :(".
Another added: "@ImAshleyRoberts totally deserved place in the semi finals #strictly."
In the end though, the judges decided to save Ashley and send Charles and his dance partner Karen Clifton home.

Charles paid special homage to Karen during his farewell speech.
He said: "Before I go through dances or memories I have to pay extreme homage to this woman here because Karen Clifton turned me into a promising dancer.
“A promising dancer honestly! This woman has been by my side and supported me, she’s been strict, she’s been solid, she’s been caring and loving, sensitive, intuitive, and I’m adamant that without her I don’t know how I would have got to this level.”
