DERMOT Morgan was the much-loved Irish star, best known for his title role in the Channel 4 series Father Ted.

The actor sadly died at the tender age of 45 just a day after wrapping up the show.

What was Dermot Morgan's cause of death?

Dermot Morgan died at the age of 45 just one day after filming the last ever episode of Fther Ted.

The comedian was hosting a dinner party when he suffered a heart attack.

His sister Denise - who was with him at the time - said:

"He wasn't feeling great at the end of the meal and I went to the bedroom with him. He had a heart attack and I didn't recognise it.

"From my limited training in first aid, I wasn't sure exactly what was happening.

"The symptoms didn't match what the books said. I said to him 'I think you are okay' and we went back to the table.

"He apologised for having left the room and the next thing he just collapsed. We tried to resuscitate him but it didn't work. He had a massive heart attack."

He was rushed to hospital but died soon after arrivaL.

He is survived by his three sons.

When did Dermot play Father Ted?

Dermot played the famous character from 1995-1998.

The much-loved Irish sitcom ran for three series and was aired on Channel 4.

It followed three Irish Roman Catholic priests who lived together in a parish in the imagianry Craggy Island.

The show centred around characters Father Ted Crilly, Father Dougal McGuire and Father Jack Hackett and their misadventures.

Dermot was awarded a post-humous BAFTA for his work on the show.

The actor was born on 31st March 1952 in Dublin to artist Donnchadh Morgan and Hilda Stokes.

He was educated at Oatlands College and then University College Dublin.
