Who are The Great New Year Bake Off 2019 contestants?

THE Great British Bake Off remains, for many, the highlight of their summer, but in recent years, baking fans have been given an extra treat to kickstart their year.

And it looks like the New Year special will be no different as stars from 2017 and 2016 reunite one final time. Here's the lowdown on who's back in the tent.

Who are The Great New Year Bake Off 2019 contestants?

Candice Brown

Former winner and fan-favourite Candice, 33, was born in North London to parents who ran pubs.

At the time she applied for 2016's Great British Bake Off she was a PE teacher based in Bedfordshire, with a passion for pies, cakes, and baking in her pyjamas with high heels on.

During her time on the show, she became well known for her ever-changing lipstick colours, however, it was her incredible creations that saw her emerge as the Queen of Baking.

The TV star revealed in September that she said her "I do"s with boyfriend Liam Macauley, 31, in a secret wedding in France.

Steven Carter-Bailey

Hertfordshire-based Steven, who was taught to bake by his cooking mentor mum Judi, was a finalist on the 2017 show, losing out as Sophie Faldo was crowned the winner.

He cooks and bakes all of his own food and appears to have a talent for whimsical cakes including making SpongeBob SquarePants and a Chanel handbag all from sponge.

Tamal Ray

Tamal Ray, 32, is a doctor, presenter and runner-up of 2015's The Great British Bake Off.

Tamal works as an anaesthetist in a Manchester hospital where he bakes brownies for his night shifts and was taught how to bake by his sister.

He's been a regular columnist for The Guardian since his stint on Bake Off and has also fronted a topical health show called Live Well For Longer.

Kate Henry

Kate Henry originally trained as an actress and spent several years performing on the stage before moving to work in advertising and design agencies.

Her daughter Eloise is also an actress, best known for starring as Tink in the 2018 adventure comedy-drama Just Between Us.

She last appeared in the Bake Off tent in 2014 for series five and currently runs her own website where she can be be hired as a private chef.

When is the Great New Year Bake Off on Channel 4?

The iconic baking show's New Year special aired on New Year's Day (January 1, 2019).

It kicked off on Channel 4 at 7.40pm and is available on All4 after it's shown.

For those who missed the Christmas special, it's available to catch up with right now on All4.

It features the likes of 2017 stars Liam Charles and Flo Atkins, as well as 2016's Jane Beedle and Andrew Smyth.

Prue Leith and  Paul Hollywood will make a return alongside presenters Sandi Toksvig and Noel Fielding.
