SAMIRA Mighty has opened up about her battle with depression in a series of honest videos for fans.
The former Love Island contestant, 22, decided to address her troubles after a number of fans asked her about her mental health woes.
The star posted the clips on Instagram and encouraged any of her followers experiencing similar difficulties to seek help.
She said in her Instagram Stories: “Hello guys, I have these filters on because I'm hungover from New Year. I wanted to address something because recently I've been getting a lot of DMs about feeling low or being depressed...
“A lot are from younger people I think it's good you're recognising you feel that way now instead of getting to a point when you're so low you can't do anything about it.
“I want you to know that for me that people don't know that I am diagnosed with depression. I knew I had it when I was younger...
“I went to the doctors and my highs are mad high and my lows are so low. One thing I wish I did when I was younger is to talk to people and tell them how you feel and I was in places I hated and I was so low and it's because i didn't speak...
“I never say how I feel, I'm very much a person who likes to keep it in and that's OK. You learn about yourself... As a general rule don't feel embarassed or be afraid...
“Speak to people about how you feel because one little thing can make you feel better. My resolution is to start talking to people. If I feel a certain way and I get low and don't tell anyone. I can reply to you and give you help and let's do this together...
“Even the smiliest people in the world will be going through something. As a positive note let's start to open up more about mental health...
“I feel a lot of people don't know that about me. I don't want to pretend I'm OK. Obviously I'm very lucky, I have a great family and great work...
“But I struggle with my mental health. I love all of your DMs and if I can help anyone in any way I will. Talk to someone if you have a bad day. What do you do to overcome anxiety and depression?”
West End performer Samira won the hearts of the nation after appearing on Love Island last year.
Before her foray into television she was best known for starring in the musical Dreamgirls, which she debuted in, in November 2017.
She has also been stage shows in Mamma Mia! and Beauty and the Beast.
