'HE'S NOT DONE ANY WORK'

Piers Morgan slams Ant and Dec’s National Television Awards nomination: ‘Ant’s been sat on his backside all year!’

Ant and Dec have won the Best TV Presenter NTA for the last 17 years - and Piers is fuming that they have been nominated again

PIERS Morgan has lashed out at Ant and Dec after the Geordie duo were shortlisted for a National Television Award.

The outspoken presenter slammed the decision to nominate the two men as a pair – ranting that Ant McPartlin “has been sat on his backside all year”.

Piers blasted Ant and Dec’s NTA nomination

Speaking to his Good Morning Britain co-host Susanna Reid, 48, earlier this morning, 53-year-old Piers moaned: “I was joking about Ant and Dec being nominated for the NTAs when one of them hasn’t done any work this year.

“It has happened.”

Susanna seemed equally peeved, insisting that the two will win in spite of Declan Donnelly going solo for most of the year.

Piers continued: “They’ll win, even though Ant has basically been sat on his backside, walking his dog for the last year.

“He’s got an award!”

At this point Susanna interjected with a technicality, clarifying: “You can’t sit on your backside and walk your dog.”

To which Piers agreed, quipping: “That’s actually true, good technical point.”

Ant and Dec traditionally present a host of shows as a duo

Ant had a two-month stint in rehab in summer 2017 after enduring a two-year addiction to strong painkillers and alcohol, which almost killed him.

He and Dec have won the NTA in the Best TV Presenter category for the last 17 years – with other nominees not standing a chance against the powerhouse pair.

The two men have been working together since meeting on Byker Grove back in 1989, going on to become household names as presenters of shows such as Saturday Night Takeaway, Britain’s Got Talent, and I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!.

In 2018 Ant only joined his partner in crime for Saturday Night Takeaway – announcing a break from the limelight to deal with personal demons after he was charged with drink driving in March.

Dec was forced to present the live Britain’s Got Talent shows on his own, and then presented I’m A Celeb alongside This Morning’s Holly Willoughby in November.

Holly is also nominated for the Best TV Presenter gong, as well as Phillip Schofield, Bradley Walsh, and Graham Norton.

Ant has now returned to work and will appear alongside Dec as usual in the upcoming series of Britain’s Got Talent.

The NTAs will take place on 22 January
