EMMERDALE viewers were cheering tonight as Charity Dingle asked Vanessa Woodfield to marry her - after locking an obnoxious millionaire in a cupboard and stealing his proposal.

A rollneck-wearing toff had hired Home Farm to propose to his girlfriend, but when he barked at Charity about the peacocks he'd ordered, she decided to hijack his moment.

She locked smarmy Mr Fanshaw away and got Vanessa shuttled over for the big moment, with her stepping out of the car looking totally bewildered.

"What's all this about?" she asked, as she walked over to a Cinderella-style carriage to the strains of a string quartet playing Coldplay.

"Just thought you might fancy a little horse ride," Charity replied.

The pair climb in and, with an angry millionaire hot on their heels, Charity gets down on one knee and pulls out a ring.

She told Vanessa: "I love you and I think you're absolutely brilliant."

Fans loved the comedy moment, with one tweeting: "That’s I’m crying ..... I don’t I am going to stop 😭😭 #vanity."

Another wrote: "This proposal is so Charity 😂 Its absolutely perfect. Highjacking someone else's proposal. You go girl!!!!"

A third found the whole thing just too much, saying: "Oh god I can’t cope with this proposal.

"I love Charity and it’s entertaining but I really wish she’d just gone for something simple and this is stressing me out 😂"

Of course, the whole thing quickly unravelled, with Vanessa realising that Charity has stolen the whole event.

However, by the end of tonight's second episode, she wasn't angry any more - and the 'Vanity' union became official.
