DANNY Dyer got more than he bargained for when he discovered his royal connections through appearing on Who Do You Think You Are? back in 2016.

Here's a look at his royal family tree and how exactly his lineage leads back to Edward III...

What are Danny Dyer's royal connections?

When Danny Dyer took part in Who Do You Think You Are? he discovered that he is in fact the Great Grandson times 22 of King Edward III.

Now he's going to delve deeper into his royal roots in the BBC programme Right Royal Family. 

During the two-part BBC documentary, the EastEnders actor discovered that not only does royalty run in his blood, but he's also related to an actual saint.

King Edward III

King Edward III was the ruler of England from 1327 until his death in 1377.

His reign of 50 years saw the evolution of British parliament as well as the deadly Black Death.

In 1337 he declared himself as the rightful heir to the French throne which triggered the Hundred Years War.

Lionel Plantagenet

Lionel of Antwerp, Ist Duke of Clarence from the House of Plantagenet was the third son of King Edward III and his wife Phillipa of Hainault.

He died in 1368, aged 29, in Alba, Italy following his marriage to Violante Visconte - the daughter of the Lord of Pavia.

It was rumoured that Lionel was poisoned by his father-in-law Galeazzo but this was never proven.

Edmund Mortimer/Philippa Plantagenet

Lionel's only child Philippa married Edmund Mortimer, the 3rd Earl of March in 1368 when she was just 13 years old.

Their marriage gave rise to the House of York's claim to the throne which sparked the War of the Roses.

William the Conquerer

William the Conqueror was the first Norman King of England and ruled from 1066 until his death in 1087.

On his deathbed he named the Earl Harold Godwinson as his successor to the throne.

Thomas Cromwell

Thomas Cromwell, the 1st Earl of Essex, was the chief minister of King Henry VIII from 1532 to 1540.

He was decapitated on the King's orders.

Danny Dyer discovered he had a lot in common with Cromwell.

Speaking on Who Do You Think You Are? he said: “Cromwell had two daughters and a son. I’ve got two daughters and a son.

";Cromwell wrote his last letter to Henry VIII begging for his life, on 24 July, which is my birthday … And I drink in the Anne Boleyn pub.”

King Louis IX of France

Danny's 26th great-grandfather is the French King Louis I,who was crowned king in 1226.

“He was very religious, very devout," medieval historian Dr Emily Guerry tells Danny while film the BBC documentary.

"He was anti-bad behaviour. He became a man who actually modelled himself on Jesus Christ and lived to imitate Christ.”
