RHI-MARKABLE

Rhian Sugden, 32, proves you don’t need a beauty regime to combat ageing

The former page three model reveals her secret to looking and feeling younger is a glass of white wine and a plate of pie and mash

MODEL Rhian Sugden looks like the proverbial million dollars – for nothing pricier than a 90p face cream her mum has used for years.

And the former Page 3 favourite has barely aged a day since she first appeared in The Sun as a 19-year-old in 2006.

Now 32, Rhian has no beauty regime, proving you don’t need to spend a fortune on faddish treatments, and she loves her white wine and pie and mash, too.

The Manchester beauty keeps the wrinkles at bay with moisturiser Astral, which has kept to the same recipe since its launch in 1953.

Rhian, who took part in Celebrity Big Brother in 2012, said: “When I go for the occasional treatment they ask what my beauty regime is and I say I don’t really have one.

“I use normal face wash and Astral, a cream that old women use. My mum has always used it and so have I — there’s no fancy, expensive creams here.

“I just put it on before I go to bed — not when I get up.”

The cream, which is also a favourite with Joanna Lumley and Amanda Holden, contains lanolin from sheep’s wool, and glycerine.

Rhian, who married actor Oliver Mellor last year, also avoids using make-up every day. Unless she needs to glam up for a night out or a photoshoot, she will leave the house without lipstick or blusher.

She said: “I don’t wear make-up unless I have to, so I’m not rubbing my face to take it off later. I don’t even put on lipstick, just lip balm.

LOTION BEHIND STAR LOOKS

RATHER than salon facials and pricey serums, Astral is the anti-ageing panacea that many women swear by – and it’s just 90p for a 50ml pot.

A host of celebrities have revealed that it’s the secret potion behind their youthful looks.

The humble blue pot is a must-have in the make-up bags of Joanna Lumley – amazing at 72 – Amanda Holden, 47, and Patsy Kensit, 50, right from top.

The Astral formula has remained exactly the same since its creation in 1953. A company spokesman says: “The nourishing and protective formula is so effective, it’s never had to change.”

The cream contains lanolin, a fatty substance extracted from sheep’s wool – which means the company does not test it on animals. Astral acts as a barrier, keeping moisture already in the skin from evaporating.

In 1961 the brand relaunched, changing its appearance to the blue tubs with white writing which millions of us know today.

Originally it was billed as a “multi-purpose beauty nurse for moisturising, sun-bathing, soothing babies’ bottoms and husbands’ razor chapped face” and it is still loved for its versatility today.

The cream can be bought in most High Street pharmacies and comes in three sizes – 50ml (90p), 200ml (£3.50) and 500ml (£7.99).

“Unless I am going out with Oliver or going to an event, I don’t put anything on.”

She added: “I try to stay out of the sun. If I go out on holiday I have sun factor 30 or 50 on my face.”

And she has maintained her enviably slender waist without starving herself of life’s pleasures.

Rhian, who quit topless shoots last year after getting married, said: “I don’t go for healthy eating. I eat pie and mash and fish and chips, and I like white wine. It keeps you feeling young. I drink when I want.”

Getting up early for photoshoots could lead to bags under the eyes but Rhian’s antidote is taking a very long lie-in whenever she gets the chance.

She said: “I like my sleep — I can sleep for 14 hours a day. I’m like a sloth. If I’m not working I can go to bed at 10pm and wake at midday.

“I think it’s a skill, I can sleep anywhere.”

The jelly is produced by worker bees for their queen and the tablets also contain minerals, proteins, fatty acids and B vitamins. But perhaps her age-defying looks just come naturally.

The closest Rhian gets to following a beauty regime is the royal jelly capsules that she takes daily.

Last week Cambridge Uni researchers revealed that keeping slim is down to genetics.

And Rhian, who has never had plastic surgery, thinks she might have inherited a youthful appearance from her mum Anita.

She said: “I think I have quite good genes. My mum is 66 but when she tells people how old she is they are shocked. She looks much younger than that.”
