Inside The Responder star Martin Freeman’s incredible £5m home with wine cellar and landscaped gardens
Martin has been looking for a new pad since his split from actress Amanda Abbington in 2017 after 16 years together
THE Responder star Martin Freeman may be on the front line in the new police drama, but he has plenty of time to kick back and relax when at home.
The actor is the proud owner of a sprawling £5million mansion - fit with a wine cellar and landscaped gardens - round the corner from his Sherlock co-star Benedict Cumberbatch.
Martin, 50, took out a mortgage with royal bankers Coutts & Co to buy the property in 2019, shortly after his split from actress girlfriend Amanda Abbington.
A source said of the purchase: “Martin is a major star and his new home is an A-list property. It is an area beloved by film and TV stars and he loves it there.”
The stunning North-West London property is said to have a huge winner cellar, perfect for entertaining guests, and plenty of garden space.
Elsewhere in the home there are plenty of cosy spots to enjoy the sprawling views of the stunning landscape surrounding the property, which is hidden away from prying eyes.
There appears to be a small attic room at the top of the house, complete with a single chair to make for the perfect reading nook.
Martin's stunning home is just a stones throw away from his Sherlock co-star Benedict, 45 - but the pair have not always got along well enough to spend time at each others' properties.
In 2018, Benedict called Martin “pathetic” for saying the expectations of critics and fans made the show “not fun any more”.
Martin, Dr Watson in the show, had been looking for a new pad since splitting from actress Amanda Abbington, 47, in 2017 after 16 years together.

They have two children and lived together in a £1.4million house in Hertfordshire. Martin has since found love again and is in a relationship with Rachel Mariam.
Martin rose to fame as hapless worker Tim in BBC comedy The Office.
As well as Sherlock he has starred in The Hobbit and Black Panther and is now one of Britain’s best-paid actors, worth an estimated £20million.
He was recently seen in the first episode of new five-part BBC drama The Responder, where he plays Chris Carson, a police officer on the edge.
Viewers are set to follow protagonist Chris during his night shifts in Liverpool, where he is pushed beyond the limits of his training and his mental indurance.
Viewers were left delighted by the first episode and took to Twitter to heap praise on Martin's impressive Liverpool accent.
One wrote: "Fair play to Martin Freeman. 5 mins in and that's a more than acceptable accent."
While another said: "Martin Freeman’s scouse accent is spot on. Non native accents usually give me itchy teeth but this was seriously impressive."
This one commented: "Well Martin Freeman, the accent is amazing - I'm impressed."
Speaking about the role, Martin told the BBC: "When Laurence Bowen first sent me the scripts he was very excited and after reading the first few pages, and I felt this was really something else.
"It wasn’t a drama that was written by committee, it was unfiltered Tony Schumacher, and I really liked that he put whatever he wanted on the page.
"Tony has been writing for a long time but the fact that this is his first television drama means he is far from having gotten into a comfortable groove or formulaic.
"He just put on the page whatever the hell he thought needed to be there and that is really exciting."
The Responder was first announced back in February 2020, but filming was delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic..
