Emmerdale viewers slam ‘ridiculous’ moment Maya Stepney is hit over the head by her own suitcase and left unconscious as she tries to flee village

EMMERDALE viewers have branded Maya Stepney's accident at the end of tonight's episode as "ridiculous".

The paedophile teacher - who is played by actress Louisa Clein in the ITV soap - was left in panic after 16-year-old Jacob threatened to expose their affair.

Ignoring her calls, Maya got through to Jacob's voicemail and left an emotional voicemail about how she was going to leave the Dales for good.

Through her tears, a distraught Maya said she would quit her job and tell David she had to leave for a family emergency - never to return.

However in her emotional state, the teacher climbed onto an old chair in order to reach her suitcase for it only to get caught on a loose nail.

Furiously tugging at the bag, she caused the wardrobe to rock which then made her chair break. The force flung her across the room and on top of a white table.

Breaking the furniture in her fall, she lay unconscious as a lamp and landed on a bag of cotton wool.

And while producers tried to make the scene dramatic, viewers at home couldn't help but laugh at the outcome, with many commenting on the cotton wool balls.

One viewer wrote: "This is the most ridiculous accident of all time."

"Good job Maya landed on the cotton wool balls or she could have really hurt herself!!!" another penned.

A third wrote: "Give over, maya had a soft landing there....... On a bag of 100 cotton wool balls!"

"Those cotton wool balls can be lethal," a viewer teased.

While others were left underwhelmed by the low-key fall - with one even demanding an apology.

"What kind of fall was that?!" another wrote. "I thought the wardrobe was going to fall on top of her!"

Another viewer penned: "Was that the big fall??? Thought she would of at least fallen down the stairs, fell off a bridge or fell out the window #Emmerdale".
