Emmerdale spoilers: Moira Barton discovers an intruder and Chas Dingle bonds with Laurel Thomas in International Women’s Day episode
It’s no boys allowed as the ITV soap makes history with an all-female cast and crew
EMMERDALE will air its historic Women’s Day episode next week which will feature and all female cast and has been produced by an all female crew.
In the special episode little April Windsor has some insecurities while Laurel Thomas and Chas Dingle – Charlotte Bellamy and Lucy Pargeter - bond over some secret news.
Elsewhere Moira Barton stumbles across and intruder whilst Rhona Goskirk finds herself with an unlikely confidante.
On a daily basis Emmerdale records with three different recording crews who are all shooting scenes from four different episodes set over a two week shoot schedule.
But for this special episode a female led team was pulled together from the regular crews, so they could all work together on this project.
The episode will follow almost all of the Emmerdale female characters as they pursue their own individual stories across generations.
It was announced back in October that the ITV would celebrate International Women’s Day in a groundbreaking way.
Jane Hudson who took over from Iain MacLeod last year as the soap’s boss, confirmed that not only will the cast be female-led but also women will produce, direct and write the one-off episode on Friday March 8, 2019.
Speaking at an Emmerdale press event, Jane shared her joy at announcing the milestone, which marks the first time a soap has ever had an all-female team both on and off the screen.
She shared: "We're doing something rather special on March 8, International Women's Day.
"Now we've got two female producers and a female executive producer – which is the first time a soap has had an all-female team.
"We are going to have an episode that is produced by a female, directed by a female and written by a female.
"The entire cast will be female including all the background artists and we will have almost an entire female crew."
Continuing the female empowerment theme, the executive producer added that the male crew members will take on "traditional female roles" for the day and there are already plans for them to look after the team's children.
She said: "What they don't realise is that we'll be giving some of the men the traditional female roles for the day so we'll all be bringing our kids in for them to look after.
"We're really excited to be doing it, to be recognising IWD and do our bit for it."
