Ricky Gervais says he has a ‘spring in his step’ after confirming After Life will return for a second series
The actor revealed he was excited to start work on season two
RICKY Gervais has thanked fans for their praise of his hit series After Life revealing the feedback has given him a “spring in his step”.
The heart-wrenching show ended on a happy note as Ricky’s character Tony started to deal with his grief and slowly move forward after the tragic death of his wife.
Posting on Twitter the 57-year-old comic offered fans his heartfelt thanks for the warm reception to his show, After Life.
He said: “Once again, I have to thank you from the bottom of my heart for all your amazing tweets about #AfterLife. I've never had a reaction like it. I have a spring in my step as I skip towards writing series 2.”
The first series has been a huge global success for Ricky and he has now revealed that he has plotted for more episodes.
Speaking to The Daily Star Sunday, Ricky said: "I always give things a good conclusion in case I die, and that's the case with After Life.
"But now I've thought about it, I would really like to do another series.
"I've got an idea of where it can go. The second series of anything you do is always better, usually because you know the actors."
Ricky plays a journalist called Tony, who is grieving the death of his wife after she loses her battle with breast cancer.
His grief makes him fearless, and he starts to tell people what he really thinks - and convinces himself he's got a superpower in the process.
Ricky added: "There is a little clue that there might be more of the show at the end of series one where he says, 'I'm just going to use my superpower for good'.
"He can still be an a***hole and enjoy it. So there's scope for more."
Last week, it was revealed that Ricky was "left gagging" and "feeling sick" as co-star Tony Way slurped his was through 15 'breast milk rice puddings'.
In an hilarious scene from the hit new Netflix show, two local reporters Tony and Lenny visit the home of a housewife that makes the puds using her expressed breast milk and bread using her vaginal yeast.
While the actual desserts consumed didn't actually include any breast milk, the mere thought of Lenny guzzling the liquid over 15 takes nearly tipped Ricky over the edge.
When asked about the laugh out loud scene, Tony exclusively told The Sun Online: "All of those ideas were there in the script but they weren't fully formed. A lot of that came from rehearsals on the day.
The stuff that really gets you is the stuff that happened by surprise. The breast milk rice pudding eating... I made some slurping sounds and then, because Ricky shoots the classic comedy way of two people in shot nearly all the time, that's Laurel and Hardy, It's the funniest way to look at a joke; that looks brilliant, but the problem is if the other person laughs you have to do it again.
"You end up eating 15 little milk puddings and then Ricky starts gagging because he feels sick, and then everyone starts to feel sick..."
