The Bay viewers shocked as Carol Jackson from EastEnders adopts a northern accent

THE Bay viewers couldn't contain their shock after spotting EastEnders' Carol Jackson faking a northern accent when the show kicked off last night.

Born and bred Londoner Lindsey Coulson - best known for playing Bianca Jackson's mum in the BBC soap - adopts a Lancashire dialect as she takes on the role of Penny Armstrong in the whodunnit drama.

And it seemed fans couldn't quite get their heads around watching the Walford stalwart play a long-time resident of northern seaside town Morecambe.

One fan tweeted: "Carol Jackson with a Northern accent is disconcerting. ,"

Lindsey played Jackson family matriarch Carol one and off for more than 20 years until 2015.

She has since starred in Clocking Off, Murder Investigation Team and Doctor Who episode Midnight alongside the tenth Doctor, David Tennant.

Her new drama follows Detective Sergeant Lisa Armstrong’s latest missing persons investigation.

As a family liaison officer she knows better than to get emotionally involved as she supports families through tough times.

But she can’t help but get personally caught up in the drama of her latest case as she realises her connection with the frightened family of the missing individual.

As Lisa fights to get justice, she discovers that it could come at a cost.
