IT'S been 20 years since The Matrix was released, but Keanu Reeves isn’t letting anyone forget about it - by repeating one of its best known quotes in his highly anticipated new movie, John Wick 3: Parabellum.

Keanu played Neo in the 1999 iconic sci-fi film franchise, and returns for the third instalment of the neo-noir John Wick franchise, which will be released on May 17.

In a scene from the thrilling new trailer, the former assassin Wick is asked, “What do you want?” to which he replies: “Guns. Lots of guns.”

Fans of the Matrix  clocked it’s the same line said by Keanu as Neo, and took to forums to heap praise on it.

“What do you need? References, lots of References. Pure brilliance,” said one movie buff. Another commented: “I’m already hyped and then they use a Matrix reference and I’m getting all nostalgic.”

The latest entry in the action-adventure franchise picks up with John Wick being chased by some of the most dangerous colleagues in the world after assassinating a member of the High Table in The Continental.

With a bounty out on Wick's head, it's going to be a fight for his life just to get out of New York City as Wick begins to question who he can trust — including former allies like Winston, played by Ian McShane and newcomer Sofia, played by Halle Berry.

Teasing what's in store in Chapter 3 at the end of last year, Reeves said it "connects to John Wick 2" and would be “crazy from the get go”.

Earlier this week, The Matrix was voted among the greatest movies of the 1990s by Brits.
