Viewers have watched as David's girlfriend Maya has groomed and abused his young son with increasing horror and discomfort.

But now Matthew has revealed it will soon be at an end as he told how David finds out about the disgusting abuse.

He told OK!: "At the moment for me it’s not too difficult as David doesn’t have a clue that it’s going on behind his back.

"He's naive to it and he thinks his relationship is going really well, but I’ve just read some scripts of when things take a turn for the worst and that will all be quite emotional.

"The storyline’s set to get darker which will be hard to play, particularly because I’m a dad."

Matthew's character David has come under increasing criticism from viewers for having no idea about the sexual abuse his son is suffering.

There have been multiple clues about what Maya has been doing but he has ignored them all, and the backlash has forced Emmerdale boss Kate Brooks to insist the storyline will end properly.
