Emmerdale casts former Brookside star Gabrielle Glaister as Nicola King’s new rival
The actress will play the role of Hilary and will go head to head with the feisty character for the spot of local councillor
FORMER Brookside star Gabrielle Glaister has been cast as a new rival for Nicola King in Emmerdale.
The 58-year-old actress will play the guest role of Hilary, who is set to make her first appearance during a campaigning event at The Woolpack next week.
In a bid to impress Kim Tate and prove herself as a useful ally after the pair hit it off last month, Nicola has launched a campaign to become a local councillor.
However, Gabrielle's character Hilary will prove a tough act to beat as it seems she is already a hit with the locals.
Gabrielle is most famous for her role as Patricia Farnham on Brookside in the 90's and has starred in other popular shows such as Coronation Street, Family Affairs, Unforgotten and ITV's recent hit drama Cleaning Up.
It will come as no surprise to fans that Nicola, played by Nicola Wheeler, has resorted to becoming a councillor in a bid to stay on Kim's side after it was revealed she would be seeking revenge on Graham Foster last month.
Graham had been blackmailing Nicola for weeks after discovering she had tried to con him out of thousands of pounds.
After making her life hell, Nicola finally saw red, and despite being partially paralysed following the 2016 fire, she was able to push Graham over.
She told him: "For a man who lives in the glassiest house on the planet, you chuck your fair share of stones."
As she shoved him, she said: "Stuff it, these women are going nowhere," before running into their house and locking the door.
Viewers were loving her response, and soon took to social media to share their thoughts on the hilarious scene.
One wrote: "Shoving Graham over is the best thing Nicola has done in ages #emmerdale."
Another added: "Not a bad shove using one arm."
A third laughed: "Hahaha that push Can’t stand Graham" while a fourth shared: "LMFAO NICOLA I'M CRYING."

Graham later called the police on Nicola, who decided to own up to her crimes.
"I conned this man out of thousands of pounds, he'd fell off the wagon and I thought he'd be too drunk to notice," she said.
She then climbed into the police car as husband Jimmy gave her his full support.
