The clip begins with Villanell e- played by Jodie Comer- lying in a hospital bed as she says: "Sometimes when you love someone you will do crazy things."

She then appears to escape from the ward by putting on a white doctor's coat and white Crocs.

But it seems the villain hasn't quite recovered from her stab wounds that were inflicted by Eve -played by Sandra Oh- at the end of last series, and Eve is sent on a mission to find her by her corrupt boss, Carolyn Martens.

"If Vilanelle is alive, you need to find her," says Carolyn, before the scene cuts to a police raid and a shot of Eve leaving her boss's house with a smile on her face.

Clearly hot on Villanelle's tail yet again, Carolyn jokes: "Stop it Eve, I can feel your excitement!"

The trailer then flickers between shots of the assassin and the MI5 agent.

Ex-hacker Kenny Stowton is seen asking Eve "what is it between you and Villanelle?", before it ends with the BBC villain echoing the comment she made at the start of the trailer.

Teasing the show's return at the end of last year, chief writer and executive producer Emerald Fennell told : "Eve has done something which may have changed her for ever, that will have repercussions with every relationship in her life."
