Emmerdale’s Jamie Tate horrified at seeing mum Kim in the village because he thinks she is still in prison, reveals actor Alexander Lincoln
In his first interview since joining the ITV soap as Kim Tate's long-lost son, actor Alexander Lincoln has revealed Jamie doesn't want anything to do with his mum
JAMIE Tate is horrified to see his mum Kim in Emmerdale village when he is tricked into moving there.
In his first interview since joining the soap, actor Alexander Lincoln has revealed his character won't be happy when he realises his evil mother Kim has manipulated him into moving to the village.
Alexander said: "The job vacancy came up and he saw an opportunity and wanted to go. And he thought Kim was in prison so it seemed like a great opportunity and then it turns out…
"He doesn’t expect to see her at all, thinks she’s still in prison. Under the circumstances it's pure shock a bit of frustration as he wanted to start a new life, admittedly back in the village, but stay away from Kim’s ways."
Alexander added: "Jamie is in his last year of vets school and he's estranged from his more.
"He's more innocent and naive than Kim and really doesn't want anything to do with her."
The actor also revealed Jamie doesn't know the extent of his mum's evil behaviour - and doesn't know how she is a killer.
"He knows bits and pieces, how she manipulates and that kind of thing," Alexander revealed.
He added: "To the full extent, he doesn’t know everything. He hasn’t been in the village so doesn’t know everything that’s been going on."
But he teased, Jamie could be more like his scheming mum than he fears.
He said when asked about Jamie taking after his mum: "Maybe, who knows? Maybe he’ll go to prison at some point! A little holiday.
"I think with your parents, there’s always certain character traits that you’re going to come back to eventually, so whether he knows it or not, maybe he is manipulative in his own sort of way. But it doesn’t shine through. So potentially."
But he is determined to fight his dark side and Jamie will spend the majority of his first few weeks apologising to everyone and trying to convince them he is nothing like Kim.
Alexander added: "He's very different, wants to distance himself entirely from the Tate name.
"It's just about him trying to distance himself from Kim. He doesn't want to be anything like her, he isn't anything like her and he wants everyone to know that."
Jamie is horrified when he sees his mother is in the village and orchestrated his return.
And unlike his on the run nephew Joe, Jamie has no relationship with Kim's right-hand man Graham Foster.
Alexander added: "Jamie sees him as an extension of Kim. He’s just a paid-for butler, there is no real relationship there. No love lost."
But the actor, who is making his television debut as Jamie, is definitely happy to be considered the show's new eye candy.
He added: "I didn’t know it would be [the village hunk] I didn’t even know that was a possibility.
"I mean yeah, it’s great. I’ll take it, that’s fine, absolutely. I’ve got a lot to live up to I think buy yeah it’s great, good feeling."
