EMMERDALE fans were convinced Liam Fox had proposed to Lucy-Jo Hudson - after he announced he'd got engaged to girlfriend Jo Hudson.

Viewers were left confused after the pair revealed their happy news on Tuesday and mistakenly raced to Google thinking he'd popped the question to the Hollyoaks star.

Searches for Lucy soared and there were 20 times more people than normal looking for the 35-year-old star, who is best known for her roles as Katy Harris in Coronation Street and Donna-Marie Quinn in Hollyoaks.

Lucy-Jo recently found love with Lewis Devine after her split from her ex-Corrie co-star Alan Halsall.

Meanwhile Liam, who has played Dan Spencer on Emmerdale since 2011, is set to wed Jo, who starred in Emmerdale as Ross Barton's doctor in September 2018.

They have been dating for more than a year - but have known each other for 25 years.

"She only went and said yes," he tweeted yesterday, announcing the happy news.

A number of Liam's Emmerdale colleagues including Sandra Marvin, Gaynor Faye and Jay Kontzle rushed to congratulate the star.

The soap's official page tweeted: "Congrats! We're getting our best hat out from the wardrobe."

Sandra - who plays Jessie Dingle - added: "Omg!! Huge congratulations to you both! Amazing news."

Jay - who plays Billy Fletcher tweeted: "Congratulations!"

Gaynor Faye added: "Awwwww Congratulations - how lovely."

Liam was previously married to Hollyoaks star Nicole Barber-Lane.

He and Nicole first met in 1997 when they were both trainee teachers at Tameside college in Manchester.

They share two children and they divorced in 2015 after 16 years of marriage.

When they split, they said: "It is with much sadness that we confirm the end of our marriage, though our family unit remains strong.

"We will always love and respect each other and are united by our children and family remaining at the centre of our lives."

Liam also worked as an actor on Coronation Street, Casualty, and Cold Feet before landing the role in Emmerdale.
