Line of Duty’s latest series will come to an end with a spectacular film-length 90-minute episode
LINE of Duty will conclude with a spectacular movie-length episode, The Sun can reveal.
The BBC1 cop thriller, which is usually an hour long, will conclude with a specially-extended 90 minute instalment on May 5.
In the past the Beeb have extended the running time of finales for series three of Line of Duty, and creator Jed Mercurio’s other major hit, Bodyguard, to 75 minutes — but this will be the longest episode ever.
A TV insider said: “Creating a closing episode which is the same length as some feature films shows just how huge this show has become and how much the corporation values it.
“Jed also felt it was necessary to create a bumper finale to tie up the many loose ends created in this series twisting storylines.
“It’s going to be a bit of a headache for schedulers as it means moving the news to fit in such a lengthy show on a Sunday night.
“But they’re determined to create a nationwide shared moment similar to last year’s Bodyguard finale, which had 10.4million tuning in.”
The bumper edition of Line of Duty is expected to draw record viewing figures.
The first three episodes already got between 7.3million and 8million tuning in, which means its finale could still beat Bodyguard.
