EMMERDALE fans are in for a nasty shock when Eric Pollard is flipped into the air after Megan Macey uses her phone whilst driving and causes a crash.
The collision is seen up close in Tuesday's episode and Megan, who is running late with Eliza in the car, and Macey's actions leave Eric in a heap on the road.
A preview clip shows Macey reading a text message from Frank Clayton but she begins to reply and crashes into the back of a car that stops to allow Eric (Chris Chittell) to cross the road.
Viewers will see her car shove the driver in front and the pensioner flips into the air over the bonnet.
He's hurled 30 yards along the village road and lies flat on his front, unconscious.
Megan is unscathed and looks on in sheer horror at the carnage she’s caused with just one text.
Eric is seriously injured and an ambulance arrives to rush him to Hotten General.
And it was only by chance that Eric crossed the road at that time, after Kerry Wyatt's daughter Amy stopped him for a chat.
She's seen running after him and asks if he's planning on breaking it off with barmaid Faith Dingle - which he denies before heading off.
Later, as he’s loaded into the ambulance, Eric asks for Faith, desperate to see her.
Meanwhile Frank will be left disappointed when Megan fails to make it to their lunch date.
But when he goes round to confront her about her no-show, he’s instantly worried about her as she tells him about the crash and reeling from her own guilt for causing it.
At the hospital Faith – along with her daughter Chas and Eric’s son David Metcalfe – is terrified when Eric suddenly loses consciousness and the nurses come running in.
All they can do is watch on in horror as he’s wheeled down to theatre for emergency surgery.
