FREDDIE Starr's friend Bobby Davro has revealed the comedy legend told him he was very unwell and refused to leave his house to meet him before his death.
Paying tribute to the 76-year-old recluse, the comic said he believes he was one of the last people to speak to Freddie months before he was found dead at his Spanish home.
He had complained just eight days ago of "getting tired more" in a haunting last Facebook post.
Appearing on Good Morning Britain today Bobby explained: "I might have been one of the last people to speak to him.
"I went over to Spain to do a couple of gigs last year. Someone said he was living in that place in Spain.
"I got in touch with him, got hold of his number and phoned him up.
"At first he didn't really feel like talking, but then he called me back.
"He said, 'How are you doing, Bob?'
"I said I was alright and asked how he was feeling and if he wanted to meet up for a cup of tea in town.
"He said, 'No, I've not been too well'.
"After seeing those pictures... I want to remember the Freddie we all knew.
"Rest in peace, Freddie. He was fantastic."
Freddie starred on I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here in 2011 just a year after recovering from quadruple bypass surgery following a heart attack.
But he left the jungle show due to ill health and became a recluse after a comeback bid flopped.
Last night neighbours in the Spanish resort of Mijas told how Freddie had been a shadow of his old self after being hammered with a massive legal bill defending historical sex abuse charges.
