READY FOR FREDDIE

Queen singer Adam Lambert thinks he would have made a great couple with Freddie Mercury

AFTER cameoing as one of Freddie Mercury’s secret flings in Bohemian Rhapsody, Adam Lambert reckons they could have been a formidable rock couple in real life.

On whether he would have caught Freddie’s eye had fate allowed, Adam – who filled the late star’s boots as frontman of Queen – said: “Apparently he did like them a little beefier! That much I know.

“So potentially.

“I think if I was alive to see Freddie Mercury on stage, he was so brilliant that I probably would have fallen in love with him, yeah.”

Out-and-proud Adam also defended the Oscar-winning movie against complaints it whitewashed Freddie’s sexuality, saying: “The film is a specific interpretation of this man’s life and I think a lot of people really felt inspired by going to see it.

“People walk out of the film loving him and I think that’s the most important thing.”

This is a big year for Adam. Not only is he rejoining Queen on tour, he has just released and from his “empowering . . .  fun and ridiculous” album Velvet.

Plus, he is also celebrating the tenth anniversary of first finding fame on American Idol.

He said: “The industry in the beginning was not sure how a mainstream artist could represent the LGBTQ movement.

“I think we all learnt, slowly but surely, there is an audience.

“People who are different do connect with the mainstream and there is room for these stories.

“The proof is that it works, so shut up.”

Amen to that. Here’s to many more.
