EMMERDALE star Gaynor Faye has quit the soap after hinting her character Megan Macey could end up behind bars.
The actress, who joined the show in 2011, has decided to step down to pursue other projects.
She told OK! Magazine: "It's a risk. I need to push myself out of my comfort zone."
It was recently hinted that wedding planner Megan could be destined for the slammer after coming clean about her involvement in a road accident.
Megan dropped the bombshell to on/off partner Frank Clayton, telling him that she'd been to the police and confessed everything about the crash that left village veteran Eric Pollard in a coma.
The business consultant caused the accident after texting while driving earlier this month.
She drove into the back of newly arrived Jamie Tate’s car, which then shunted forward hitting Eric – Chis Chittell - in the process.
Megan then stood by as a confused Jamie was blamed for running down Eric, who was rushed to hospital where doctors found a bleed on the brain.
Later Megan ran into Eric and told him she’d already been to the police but was on her way to make a full statement, determined to deal with what comes next.
Furious he heads over to confront Megan and leaves her stunned when he tells her he can’t trust her with their daughter and that he’ll be keeping her - causing a custody war between the pair.
And it seems the accident could be linked to Megan's exit as Gaynor said she could end up serving jail time during a recent interview.
She dished: "If Megan goes to prison, I don't think it'd be a great place for her. I think she'd definitely get into a lot of trouble in prison.
"But that could be a good thing - it'd be great to play! We have got a little prison set because so many people go to prison on this show!"
