Coronation Street’s Faye Brookes lands her first role after quitting the soap – as Snow White in panto
SHE may have only just quit the soap, but Coronation Street's Faye Brookes has already landed her first role – as Snow White in panto (oh yes she has!).
The actress, 31, announced she was quitting the ITV show last month, saying that she wanted to "leave on a high".
But it looks like she has wasted no time at all in landing her first gig.
She will join Birds of Feather actress Lesley Joseph and former X Factor winner Joe McElderry on the stage at the Birmingham Hippodrome this Christmas.
While Faye takes on the starring role of Snow White, Lesley is The Wicked Queen and Joe plays The Spirit of The Mirror.
Sharing the news on Instagram she said: "Here it is... the official announcement of @brumhippodrome Panto 2019 “Snow White & The Seven Dwarfs” Come join us this Christmas."
This isn't the first time Faye has tread the boards.
Before starring in Corrie, Faye was known for her work on the theatre and starred in Grease, Shrek and Legally Blonde.
Meanwhile, earlier this month Faye defended her shock decision to leave Corrie but admitted to The Sun that she's pleased she's not being killed off.
The star said she’s happy ITV bosses have left the door open for her should she want to come back to the cobbles.
Her character Kate Connor recently lost the love of her life on their wedding day and it’s only now been revealed who is to blame for Rana’s death.
She told us: “It’s the end of my contract. It’s come to an end. I want to go out on a high.
“I’ve had a lot of storylines to be fair. I’ve loved my four years. I’m really grateful to Corrie to leave it open ended because it means I can come back.”
Faye - who is engaged to singer Gareth Gates - will be on the screen until the early autumn and show bosses say the door will be "left open" if she wants to return in the future.
She tweeted: "Thanks to everyone for your amazing support, but after 4 fabulous years in Weatherfield it's time for me to explore new opportunities, I've loved playing Kate Connor, but she needs a break for a little while and so with a song in my heart I'm off to pastures new. #corrie."
Faye's exit comes after she was involved in an emotional storyline as Kate's wife-to-be Rana Habeeb died in her arms after the factory roof collapsed.

"Rana's death was the hardest thing I've ever had to film and emotionally I ran myself into the ground with it," she said at the time.
In the past few months a number of actors have announced they are leaving the ITV soap.
Earlier this year Kym Marsh quit her role as Michelle Connor, telling The Sun: "When I was lucky enough to be offered four episodes I could never in my wildest dreams have thought I’d be here 13 years later.
