Emmerdale’s Robert Sugden will kill himself in devastating shock exit after Ryan Hawley quits the soap, claims new fan theory
EMMERDALE'S much-loved Robert Sugden will commit suicide in a devastating shock exit after Ryan Hawley quits the soap, claims a new fan theory.
It comes after The Sun exclusively revealed that Ryan Hawley, who has played the character for the past five years, has quit the show.
Robert is currently in a loving relationship with Aaron Dingle, played by Danny Miller - affectionately labelled RobRon by fans - and is also in the middle of an explosive storyline whereby he's tracking down his sister Victoria's rapist, Lee.
Therefore the announcement of his departure has caused lots of speculation.
"Possible theories I have heard about Robert leaving: killed by Lee; goes to prison; something happens that makes him just leave; an accident kills him/he dies; he commits suicide. Feel free to add more #Emmerdale #Robron," tweeted one fan.
Viewers of Emmerdale have recently seen enraged Robert track Lee down to the car dealership where he works to try and get a confession.
Him and Aaron then printed out posters of his face with the word "rapist" on and delivered them around town, much to Victoria's fury.
Victoria was raped by Lee in March following a night out in Hotton and since then, she has found out she is pregnant with his child.
In more recent scenes, she made a statement to the police about the attack, but with little evidence to suggest he forced her into bed without her consent, the case remains open but stagnant.
Despite pleas from Robert, Victoria is planning on keeping the child and raising it on her own.
Ryan has played the popular character since 2014, becoming the fourth actor to portray Robert following Richard Smith, Christopher Smith and Karl Davies.
Robert was first introduced to the soap in 1986, along with the Sugden clan - dad Jack, mum Sarah, sister Victoria - then played by Hannah Midley - and adoptive brother Andy, played by Kelvin Fletcher.
While his fate is being kept secret by Emmerdale producers, an ITV source said: “Emmerdale fans have loved every minute of RobRon’s story, and what Ryan has brought to playing Robert.
“But he has decided to take a break from the show for the foreseeable future and try other projects.
“He will leave later this year, but fans can expect to see him on screen right up until the end of the year. He will be sorely missed.”
