She famously joked when she was asked 18 months ago if she was expecting: “I am not with child — I am with pot belly.”

On Saturday night a source said of her baby news: “Steph and her girlfriend are absolutely thrilled.

“Everyone at the Beeb is delighted too — she is one of the most popular faces on and off the red sofa.

“But she won’t be doing any magazine shoots any time soon — she values her privacy too much.”

The insider also told how Steph, whose partner is a TV exec, had “suffered really badly with morning sickness in the early days, before anybody knew”.

The source went on: “She was sick recently, just seconds before going on air.”

The award-winning broadcaster is also filming a new BBC1 prime-time series, Easy Ways To Live Well, alongside Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall.

In it, Steph explores different ways to stay healthy during all the trimesters of pregnancy. She is also due to film a new series of Shop Well For Less with Alex Jones, who gave birth to her second son, Kit, in May.

Last year in January Steph had to deny claims she was pregnant after scores of fans took to Twitter to congratulate her.

She later said: ‘I’d definitely be in the wrong job if I got offended by comments like that.

“Even my own auntie asked me once if I was pregnant after seeing me on the telly — that’s just life on camera.”

On Saturday night her spokesperson declined to comment.
