Rapper Dave is facing a backlash as his murderer brother serving life in prison is heard on track
RAPPER DAVE is facing a furious backlash after it emerged his album features the voice of his brother – who is serving life in jail for one of the most “ferocious and merciless” youth-gang knife murders in UK history.
Dave — full name David Omoregie — this week saw his debut Psychodrama shortlisted for the Mercury Music Prize, with bookies singling him out as the favourite to win with 3/1 odds.
The record’s final track, Drama, opens with an audio clip of a sibling — who Dave later raps is “the only person I ever f***ing idolised” and “my hero” — talking proudly about witnessing the young star’s achievements.
And we can reveal the voice is that of Dave’s older brother Christopher Omoregie, who was jailed for a brutal blade attack on Sofyen Belamouadden in London’s Victoria Station in 2010.
The South London-born rapper then goes on to question: “Is it survival of the fittest or is he a killer?”
But last night Naina Ghailan, the mum of tragic schoolboy Sofyen, 15, slammed the track as “disgusting”.
She raged: “I’m appalled. How can he idolise a killer? Someone who has taken a life? Anyone who buys such a song has got to be crazy.
“When you kill a child, you kill a whole family. I am disgusted at this song.”
Promising footballer Sofyen was kicked, punched and stabbed nine times by a gang of 20 teenagers.
Omoregie, then 18, was convicted of murder and sentenced to a minimum of 18 years.
But he plays a central role in track Drama, which is presented as a dialogue between him and Dave, as he moans down the crackling phone line: “None of this is easy.”
He is heard telling his brother: “Many nights . . . I pray, bruv, that someone’s gonna help me through this, bring me out of this s**t.
“It took a while for man to recognise, boy, who he was going to send. Man, I’m very happy to say it’s one of my own. None of this is easy. I’m just proud to be witnessing what’s going on.”
Dave, who was 11 at the time of the killing, then raps: “Is it survival of the fittest or is he a killer? Losing dad was big. Losing you was even bigger. Never had a father and I needed you to be a figure.
“I remember when you got sentenced and I was throwing up. It’s like they took a piece of my freedom . . . I just lost the only f***ing person I idolised. For my entire life I copied you down to the finest line.”
And he goes on to rap to his incarcerated sibling: “I just hope you’re proud of me brother, it’s been a long stretch. You’re my hero.”
The record, which sees Dave collaborate with musicians including Stormzy, has been praised by critics as the “boldest and best British rap album in a generation.”
But Naina, from Acton, West London, condemned label bosses for allowing final track Drama to be released, saying: “How can this be allowed?
“This person has taken Sofyen’s life, my life and my other children’s lives away. It’s outrageous to think he is in prison, but appearing on an album.”
Dave — whose set at last month’s Glastonbury went viral when he pulled a teenage fan out of the crowd to rap with him — has previously hinted about his brother’s criminal past.
In a Facebook post in August 2016 he told fans how his brother had finally had a chance to hear his music.
He told them: “No amount of money . . . or anything could come close, one of the happiest moments of my life.”
Rocky road for Fast cast
THE latest Fast And Furious movie revolves around a tense rivalry and a lot of smack talk.
And behind the scenes on the film I hear there was . . . a tense rivalry and a lot of smack talk.
Sources tell me The Rock – real name Dwayne Johnson – infuriated co-stars on the set of Fast And Furious presents: Hobbs And Shaw with his “arrogance and rudeness”.
The atmosphere grew so toxic the actor shunned the London premiere this week.
The Rock plays ex-security services agent Luke Hobbs – the bitter rival of Jason Statham’s former military officer Deckard Shaw.
They are driven into an uneasy partnership by common enemy Brixton, played by Idris Elba. Shaw’s sister, MI6 agent Hattie Shaw, is played by Vanessa Kirby.
And I can reveal character Hobbs’ animosity towards his enemies during filming required little acting. My source said: “The feeling on set was that Dwayne just wasn’t a team player. He kept to himself and often came across as arrogant and rude.
“He certainly wasn’t winning any popularity contests among the cast. Vanessa was one of the people who made it known she wasn’t really a fan.” Last night a spokesman for The Crown’s Vanessa insisted she “had a great time” working with The Rock, adding: “They are good friends.”
But while co-stars Vanessa, Jason and Dame Helen Mirren all walked the red carpet in London, The Rock was absent.
Perhaps for the franchise’s next instalment, it might be wise to empty a few of the bullet cartridges be- fore the film cameras roll.
Emily gets shirty
Emily Ratajkowski knows just how to spot a good picture – and business – opportunity.
Having flogged her Inamorata bikini range to all four corners of the Earth, she is now flogging a new collection. . . of shirts to be worn while showing off her bikinis.
The, ahem, actress posed up a storm on her Instagram this week in a new batch of sexy snaps to advertise her wares.
And it turns out that her new spotty shirts are remarkably versatile.
They can be worn off the shoulder and undone, to show off a bikini, tied up around the boobs, to show off a bikini . . . you get the idea.
Royal? Lu must be joking
MOUTHY ex-Apprentice contestant Luisa Zissman is at it again.
After another tough week for attention-dodging Harry and Megan, Luisa told me: “I would never marry a royal. I can’t imagine anything worse, it’s an awful life.
