Paul Gascoigne’s son auditioned for BBC1’s The Greatest Dancer and tried to hide his famous dad from producers
PAUL Gascoigne made a career from his silky footwork, and clearly the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.
But his lad Regan wants to make his mark in dancing, not football.
The 23-year-old, who is the former England international’s son with ex-wife Sheryl, auditioned for BBC1 show The Greatest Dancer this week in front of captains
Otis Mabuse, Cheryl Tweedy, Matthew Morrison and Todrick Hall. And I’m told he didn’t mention his famous dad to producers.
A show source said: “Regan wanted to be taken seriously in his own right. He turned up and gave his name but no one really made the link.
“The dance captains and the audience had no clue his dad is football royalty.”
A BBC spokesman told me: “The Greatest Dancer returns to BBC One next year and contestants will be announced in due course.”The dance series, which is Simon Cowell’s first project with the BBC, isn’t Regan’s reality show debut, however.
He appeared on the 2012 series of X Factor as half-sister Bianca gave a rendition of Mary J Blige’s J I’m Goin’ Down.
But unfortunately she failed to impress any of the judging panel.
Then head judge Gary Barlow didn’t hold back with his judgment, saying: “Your voice is just not good enough. You should have a better voice by now. In general it was a bit of a mediocre performance.”
Hopefully Regan fares better on TGD.
Austen vs Love Island
WRITER Andrew Davies has been taking some unlikely inspiration for his saucy ITV version of Jane Austen’s Sanditon, starring Rose Williams.
Andrew – the man behind Colin Firth‘s wet-shirt scene in the BBC’s 1995 Pride And Prejudice adaptation – says of a love triangle in his new drama: “It’s a bit like
Love Island, really. I mean, ‘Is she just friend-zoning him? Or is there a fanny flutter?’. I confess I am a fan of Love Island.”
And like the reality show, both men and women will be flashing the flesh.
Andrew added: “As my wife constantly says, she has no objection to female nudity but she’d like to see a great deal more male nudity on screen, so I try to please her.”
Somehow though, I can’t imagine the Victorians yelling out, “Got a text!”.
