Paul Hollywood’s slated Euston Station bakery bulldozed to make Tube station entrance

PAUL Hollywood has suffered another blow – his first bakery has been razed to the ground.

Knead Bakery and Coffee, which was celebrated as “an extension of Paul’s deep passion for baking”, was launched in Euston Station in September 2017.

But the café, which was backed by food service giants SSP, was immediately hit by terrible reviews from customers who branded the food “revolting.”

And it was demolished earlier this year amid renovations of the Central London station, with no plans in place to revive it in a different location.

A source told the Sun on Sunday: “Paul had high hopes for Knead, so it was a big disappointment when he was told it was permanently closing.

“On paper the renovation was the reason for the closure, but behind the scenes at SSP there has been no drive at all to find a replacement location.

“Despite all the fanfare around Knead’s launch, the reviews were fairly negative from the start.”

Paul, 53, who was dumped by Summer Monteys-Fullam last month, promised that Knead would offer traditional breakfasts “just like my mum makes”.

But it was hit by bad reviews just days after opening, with one customer commenting on TripAdvisor: “Come on Paul, get your act together.”

Another commented: “(This was) quite possibly the worst bacon sarnie I’ve ever had.”

The last review for the café in December, read: “Awful raw and cold sausage sandwich. I complained on the website but have received no response.”

And it was quietly closed shortly afterwards.

Bosses at London Euston announced that ahead of the closure they were building “a new underground entrance” where the bakery had stood.

In March, they went on to confirm the changes in a post on Twitter, saying: “We will demolish the old Pret, Ed’s and Nero’s over the next month.

“We are also punching through the old Paul Hollywood unit to create a new underground entrance. We are breathing new life into the existing station over the year to make it easier to get around.”

An SSP spokeswoman said on Saturday night: “As a result of the HS2 redevelopment at Euston station, a number of units were forced to close at Euston earlier this year, one of which was Paul Hollywood’s Knead.

“Knead is one of a number of brands in our portfolio, and as with all our brands, we will consider opportunities to open another Knead with Paul as and when they arise.”
