Fans of the soap will see Tracy hand Megan a ring box as she realises that dead Frank was about to ask her to marry him.

Overcome with guilt and regret, she slips the ring on and then confronts all the villagers at his funeral who think he started the devastating blaze.

Megan will then decide to make a fresh start away from the village.

Gaynor, who revealed she was leaving the soap earlier this year, has said that she wants to work on other projects.

She made the announcement back in May 2019 during an interview with OK! Magazine.

The actress – who also played Judy Mallet in Coronation Street in the late 90s – told the publication: “It's a risk. I need to push myself out of my comfort zone. I’ve always been the type of person who doesn’t want to stay playing the same character for too long.

"I’ve been on the show for over six years and have naturally reached a point where I’d like to do some other stuff."

During her time in the Dales, Megan has been involved in some big storylines including daughter, Eliza, being diagnosed with cerebral palsy and – more recently – a car accident with veteran Eric Pollard.

Her character has also had several relationships including with Frank, Graham Foster and a marriage to Jai Sharma, who is Eliza’s dad.

Gaynor previously hinted that Megan could be heading for the slammer after mowing down pensioner Pollard while texting behind the wheel.

She said: “If Megan goes to prison, I don't think it'd be a great place for her. I think she'd definitely get into a lot of trouble in prison.

"But that could be a good thing – it'd be great to play. We have got a little prison set because so many people go to prison on this show!"

Gaynor isn’t the only face leaving Emmerdale over the next few months. Fans will also have to bid farewell to Ryan Hawley, who plays Robert Sugden, and Sandra Marvin, who plays Jessie Dingle.
