LIAM Payne has waited "several months"; to go public with his new girlfriend Maya Henry out of respect for ex Cheryl.
The One Direction band member, 26, has sparked up a new relationship with the 19-year-old American model, but has kept the romance under wraps until he knew it was the real deal, following his split from his former fiancée last year.
A source told The Mirror: "Liam and Maya have been together for several months now.
"He is besotted and they get on very well.
"But he wanted to wait before they started going public.
"He is close to Cheryl and, out of respect to her, only wanted to go public with a girlfriend when he knew it was right."
The Sun Online has contacted Liam's rep for comment.
The news comes shortly after Liam was spotted hand in hand with Maya in London's Mayfair last night, sparking rumours they are back together.
The pair dated briefly last year, but their romance fizzled out after a few months.
It now looks like things are back on as Liam and Maya put on a cosy display as they stepped out together.
They looked happy and relaxed to back together and clung onto each other as they walked through the streets of posh Mayfair.
The 26-year-old singer looked handsome in a blue shirt and black trousers.
While model Maya, 19, looked cute in a mini-dress and thigh high boots.
The couple were first spotted together back in August 2018, after he split with Cheryl six weeks ago.

Shortly after they started dating last year, it was revealed that Maya first met Liam when she was just 15 and he was touring with 1D, and they had first locked eyes on one another in 2015.
Liam and Maya - who is an American Instagram sensation 17 years Cheryl’s junior - enjoyed a string of dates after the fashion bash, but drifted apart, only to reunite over the summer.
