Cody Simpson calls relationship with ex-girlfriend Miley Cyrus ‘just one of those phases’ one year after split
CODY Simpson called his relationship with ex-girlfriend Miley Cyrus "just one of those phases."
The former couple split in August 2020.
The 24-year-old singer spoke about the breakup during an interview on
“Everything ended fairly amicably," Cody shared.
The Australian singer added: "It was just one of those phases, I guess. You go through [it] and you learn a lot from it."
The exes were first romantically linked in October 2019, though Cody explained that they had known each other for a while before their relationship turned romantic.
He said: "I’d known her for a long time at that point.
“We went from kind of being good friends to just having a lot of the same friends, to being together for a while.”
Back in August, the 28-year-old hitmaker addressed their split during an Instagram Live video.
“Two halves can’t make a whole and we’re individually just working on ourselves to become the people that we wanna be, like everybody else at this age,”
“We’ve been friends for ten years and we’re going to continue to be friends, so just don’t make it something that it is not," added.
The former couple appeared to be serious during their relationship, as Cody looked after Miley when she had vocal cord surgery and they even got matching tattoos.
They had been self-isolating together in Los Angeles, and in early April .
Before her relationship with Cody, Miley was in a long-term relationship with ex-husband , 31.
Miley and Liam met in 2008 on the set of film The Last Song, when the Hannah Montana alum was 16 and the Hunger Games star was 18.
They dated for several years and became engaged in 2012, only to end their romance in 2013.

However, they reconciled in 2015 and married in 2018 in a small private wedding in Australia.
