MUSICIAN J Balvin recently apologized following an offensive music video he released with rapper Tokischa.
The star took to his on Sunday to share his apology.
What did J Balvin say in his apology?
In mid-October, J Balvin released a music video for his song, Perra.
In the video, Black women were portrayed as dogs - walking around on leashes and wearing dog ears. Naturally, this came across as incredibly offensive and J Balvin later removed the video following criticism.
On Sunday, October 24, 2021, J Balvin posted a series of videos to his Instagram stories, apologizing for the music video.
"I want to say sorry to whomever felt offended, especially to the Black community.
"That's not who I am. I'm about tolerance, love and inclusivity. I also like to support new artists, in this case Tokischa, a woman who supports her people, her community and also empowers women.
"As a form of respect, I removed the video eight days ago," he continued. "But because the criticism continued, I'm here making a statement."
"Mom, I'm sorry too. Life gets better each day. Thank you for listening to me,"
The music video also featured Tokischa in a dog house, posing on all fours.

What were reactions to the music video Perra?
On October 11, 2021, Colombia’s vice president and chancellor, Marta Lucía Ramírez posted an open letter in which she publicly shamed the music video for Perra.
In the letter, she referred to the video as "sexist, racist, machista, and misogynistic".
J Balvin's mother also had something to say about the song and video.
On Thursday, October 21, his mother, Alba Mery Balvin, told a Columbian news station that she had talked to him about the song many deemed racist and sexist.
"When I found out, I called him … 'Where is the Josésito that I know?'" she said.
“That song is not … I don’t even know what to say. I did not see my José anywhere."
The same day, entertainer Lyn May also publicly spoke out about the song and video.
“I’m not your b***h, I’m a wolf,” she said. “I am going to defend women, cabron.”
Who is J Balvin?
J Balvin is a Colombian singer and rapper. His full name is José Álvaro Osorio Balvín.
He was born May 7, 1985, and got his start in the entertainment industry around 2004. After he moved to America at age 17, he began performing in various clubs.
In 2014, J Balvin broke through to the big leagues - his single, 6 AM, peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot Latin songs chart.
J Balvin has made history as the first Latino man to headline events like Coachella, Tomorrowland, and Lollapalooza.
He's known as the "Prince of Reggaeton" to many, and was even named the "leader of a second-generation reggaeton revolution" by Guinness World Records.
