Britney Spears gains control of her estate in latest conservatorship win as her lawyer slams dad Jamie as a ‘disgrace’
BRITNEY Spears gained control of her estate today during her latest legal victory after being freed from her 13-year-conservatorship, The Sun can reveal.
The pop star’s attorney, Mathew Rosengart, said at the Los Angeles courthouse that she “now has the power to do whatever she wants to do” while slamming her dad, Jamie Spears, as a “disgrace.”
Though the singer was finally granted freedom from her father, Jamie, 69, during last month’s conservatorship hearing, certain parts of her life were still controlled or monitored by the court - including her multi-million dollar fortune.
However, Judge Brenda Penny ruled today that Britney, 40, will now have the power to execute and sign financial or estate documents by herself.
The decision marks the first time in nearly 14 years that allows Britney to have power over her own finances.
News of Britney's financial freedom comes as:
- The pop star's 13-year-conservatorship was terminated in November
- Britney celebrated her 40th birthday - her first as a free woman in over a decade - with fiance Sam Asghari during a lavish tropical trip
- Fans are convinced Sam & Britney are married after he called her his "wife"
- The mom-of-two wants to have "another baby" who will "NOT" have a relationship with her parents
- Christina Aguilera was SLAMMED by Britney - who accused her of "staying quiet" about conservatorship
Britney’s net worth is estimated to be $60 million - though her legal team has brought up in previous court hearings that the amount should be higher given the entertainer’s earnings over the years.
The Grammy winner’s lawyer said that his client now “has the power to do whatever she wants to do” as Judge Penny “once again acknowledged that Britney Spears is a free, independent woman and can live how she wants.”
Attorney Mathew then took aim at Britney’s father - who he alleged is “evading” deposition of his handling of the conservatorship by continually not showing up for scheduled appointments.
The lawyer said outside of Stanley Mosk courthouse: “Jamie Spears was noticed by myself and my law firm, meaning we served papers for his deposition.
“He did not show up for his deposition the first time. He did not appear for his deposition the second time.
“So he has not yet been deposed but he will be deposed in this case and I look forward to taking his deposition.”
He then explained what actions will be taken if the Spears patriarch continues to avoid being deposed: "If necessary, the action we will take to get his deposition, which is required by law, is to file a motion to compel.
“It should not be necessary, but if he continues to evade his deposition, we will file a motion to compel.”
A motion to compel is a formal request to ask the court to enforce the information requested is provided - which in this case is Jamie’s deposition.
'JAMIE'S A DISGRACE'
Ending on a final scathing note, Mathew slammed Jamie, firing off: “Mr. Spears is a disgrace and suspended as her conservator. That’s a statement of fact.”
The legal battle is still not over, as the next hearing is scheduled for January 19, 2022 - which will also review various financial fees for the case.
Last month, Britney's conservatorship was officially terminated after 13 years without requiring any further mental evaluation.
Judge Penny ruled that Britney's conservatorship of both the person and the estate would end immediately, giving the hitmaker some control of her life for the first time since 2008.
Shortly after news broke that the conservatorship had been terminated, Britney took to to share a video of her army of fans celebrating outside of the courthouse.
She captioned the post: "Good God I love my fans so much it’s crazy!!!
