NETFLIX’s latest Christmas present to fans isn’t exactly dripping with festive cheer.

Kiersey Clemons plays lead role Jenn, who finds herself stranded on a remote tropical island after her boat capsizes.

She soon finds herself battling the elements for survival, struggling to find sustenance in the first days of being stranded.

However, keeping her belly full becomes the least of her worries when a terrifying beast emerges from the water, stalking the jungle for prey.

After catching a glimpse at the trailer, viewers took to the comments section with their thoughts, and suffice to say most were terrified.

“Well that’s me scared of water for life, no more swimming I guess,” one wrote, alongside a string of crying emojis.

“I used to love beaches until approximately two minutes ago, so glad I watched,” another joked.

While a third chimed in: “2019’s gonna be a Christmas to remember for better or worse, thanks Netflix!”

Sweetheart was produced by acclaimed horror studio Blumhouse, who have worked on the likes of The Purge, Insidious, The Conjuring and Happy Death Day.

It first premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, where it received rave reviews.

Bloody Disgusting called the movie “minimalist horror as its best… simple, yet extremely-well-shot.

The publication added: “[Director] Dillard uses a pared back story to let his leading lady and the monster she’s forced to battle shine.”

Starring alongside Clemons in the film are The OA’s Emory Cohen and Spartacus: Vengeance’s Hanna Mangan-Lawrence.
