The Secret Life Of Pets becomes 2016’s biggest animated movie
The charming tale of a pets' daring rescue mission in New York overtakes Disney's Utopia to collar top spot
THE Secret Life of Pets has continued its purr-fect run at the box office - to become 2016's biggest animated movie.
The kids' movie - that reveals what your pets really get up to when they're left at home - has now earned £25.7m at the UK box office, beating Disney's Zootopia's total of £23.85m.
The Secret Life Of Pets has also grossed over £2million on four different weekends, a feat matched by only the UK's biggest film of the year, The Jungle Book.
Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip is the third most successful animated movie, with takings of £18.2m.
The top five animated movies of 2016 so far is completed by high-kicking sequel Kung Fu Panda 3 (£15.4million) and The Angry Birds Movie (£11.02million).
Kids' animated films make a strong showing in the UK's overall biggest grossing movies of 2016, with The Secret Life of Pets, Zootopia, Alvin and the Chipmunks and Kung Fu Panda 3 all featuring in the top 10.
As ever though, the top grossing movie list is dominated by super-hero movies, with Captain America: Civil War, Deadpool, and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice lining up just behind The Jungle Book.
The seventh X-Men movie, X:Men Apocalypse also makes the Top 10.
